The green tea plant, camellia sinensis is a type of plant whose buds and leaves are used to produce tea.  The plant is grown in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

There are three types of tea, green, black and oolong.  All of these teas come from the camellia sinensis plant.  In recent years we have become aware of the health benefits associated with green tea.  The medicinal properties of green tea are attributed to polyphenols, which act as antioxidants.  Antioxidants help prevent the damage caused by free radicals present in the body.

Green tea has been found to be helpful in preventing cancer, improving bad cholesterol, improving digestion, helping to regulate the blood sugar among many others.

Green tea is yellowish in color.  It tastes a bit different than black tea, but it is a natural great tasting beverage.  With green tea offering so many health benefits, it is becoming a very popular drink.  You can get forms of green tea at your favorite coffee shop.
